THE CITY HALL SQUARE
Located on what used to be the old Saint
Francis Convent, this impressive square gathers
important buildings of the city like the central
post office and the City Hall. Built at the
beginning of the 20th century, its eclectic
style combines neobaroque and academicist
elements. The main stairs and the Crystal Room
are outstanding. This building combines its
municipal administrative duties and brings
together the principal cultural, sports, social
and institutional expressions of the citizens.
It also houses the Municipal Historic
Archives. |

VÍRGEN DE LOS DESAMPARADOS BASILICA
This baroque building is a
singular architectural complex since it is
joined to the Cathedral by a renaissance arch.
This church presents a transition style towards
neoclassicism and is dedicated to the Gothic
image of the "Mare de Déu dels Desemparats"
(Mother of God of the Unprotected) patron saint
of the City of Valencia. It is located on the
Square "Plaza de la Virgin", one of the most
traditional and visited points in the city.
During Fallas, it is the place where the
offering of flowers to the Virgin of the
Unprotected takes place, a colorful and crowded
expression of popular devotion.In this complex,
you can also find the Waters Court, and in the
center of the square there is a large fountain
paying homage to the Turia River. The Palau de
la Generalitat is very close to it.

THE CATHEDRAL OF VALENCIA Its construction begun in the 13th century and
was completed in the
15th century. It is an example of primitive
gothic style, though it was remodeled in the
18th century. The Cathedral of Valencia presents
three porticos: one in Romanic style, one
gothic, and one baroque, depending on how we
gain access to the building. It has a singular
bell tower, very representative of the City of
Valencia and popularly called "The Micalet
Tower" You gain access to the main portico of
the Cathedral of Valencia through the Queen's
Square (Plaza de la Reina), one of the
most important and busiest squares of the city.
From there, you can also contemplate the tower
of Saint Catherine's Church.

MICALET TOWER
This bell tower which is 50,85 meters high and has
207 steps offers magnificent views of the city.
The dome of the Cathedral of Valencia was named
after Archangel Michael, whose saint's day
coincides with the date the tower was
inaugurated in the year 1418. This octagonal
building also houses a bell dating from the 16th
century.

CASCO ANTIGUO - EL CARMEN
Historic urban space
originally surrounded by the old stone walls,
which no longer exist, and once protected and
closed the city. One of the largest and most
solid fortresses in Europe. There you can find
the largest concentration of historic monuments
and buildings that witnessed the era of splendor
of this city. The old town invites you to wander
around its narrow streets. "El Carmen", the most
popular neighbourhood, is located here, loaded
with the history of Valencia. Walking around its
narrow streets and irregular blocks that give
way to its noble buildings, palaces and Roman
and Arab ruins, is a fascinating activity that
takes you back to other times and people.
With an
acceptable degree of conservation today, this
neighbourhood represents one of the leisure areas
of the city that houses bars, charming
restaurants, terraces and pubs. Close to it, you
can find the Round square (Plaza Redonda), whose
small shops make it one of the most curious and
typical places. Its circular construction is
singular and at present it is a colorful and
peculiar street market.
